Melencolia
Bregenzer Festspiele, Werkstattbühne. 18th August 2022 (Premiere).
Brigitta Muntendorf’s “Melencolia I” recently had its premiere with the d&b Soundscape at the Bregenzer Festspiele. To bring the composer’s imagination to life, Werkstattbühne was installed with a 360 Soundscape system. In addition, a virtual acoustic shell was used to provide a desirable acoustic environment for the musicians.
In this remarkable concert, the internationally renowned orchestra Ensemble Modern was accompanied by some virtual guests on stage, such as the Iranian Ney-Anban virtuoso Saeid Shanbehzadeh. Brigitta Muntendorf used the pre-recorded and synthesized electronic sounds to create an immersive acoustical environment while using green screens and video projections to demonstrate the parallel existences of the universe. During the show, electronic and live orchestra music were intermixing each other, taking the audience in between familiar and surreal audio spaces.
